IMG_4459Kennydale is one of Renton’s most enduring and charming neighborhoods. Nestled against Lake Washington on its western border, lower Kennydale offers 180-degree views of the lake with glimpses of downtown Bellevue, parts of Seattle and Mercer Island, Mt. Rainier, and the Olympic Mountains. Kennydale straddles I-405, and borders both downtown Renton and parts of South Bellevue, making it an exceptional location to work and play in both cities.

Kennydale has its own neighborhood association and newsletter dedicated to furthering a unique community spirit one expects to find in an established neighborhood. The association provides activities for neighbors to get acquainted such as gardening clubs, neighborhood picnics, and holiday socials. Other Renton holiday traditions such as the 4th of July fireworks celebration and Christmas light show are on display at Gene Coulon park located at Kennydale’s southern tip. This 55 acre park is one of King County’s most prestigious, encompassing both a Kid Valley and Ivars restaurant, botanical walks, boat launches, a fishing pier, swimming beach, and a boardwalk.

IMG_4460Another hugely popular recreational activity in the area is cycling. Kennydale’s location along Lake Washington makes it part of a fifty mile bike loop around the entire lake. It’s safe and easy to travel by bike through Renton and on to either Seattle or Bellevue using paved bike lanes along Lake Washington BLVD and the six-mile Lake Washington trail. Not only does the trail take cyclists to Bellevue, it also allows one to connect to the major east/west bike routes that run along I-90 to Seattle and Issaquah. Getting around by car or bus is easy too. Splitting I-405, Kennydale has its own Park and Ride and is serviced by King County Metro and Sound Transit lines daily, making commuting by bus accessible and convenient.

Lastly, Kennydale recently had two famous neighbors move in. To the north is the Virginia Mason Athletic Center, where the Seattle Seahawks train and where the public can view their practices. And, to the South is Renton’s new premier urban retail village The Landing, where the abundance and diversity of shopping/dining choices available to residents are too many to list. The Landing also houses a medical clinic, gym, banks, and other non-retail businesses one needs to complete daily errands.

vmacAll the news about the Seahawks and The Landing won’t spoil the old fashioned charm of Kennydale. This lakeside neighborhood has something to offer every type of home dweller, from multi-million dollar lakefront homes, to apartments, condominiums, and starter homes as well. With its diversity of housing, beautiful views, great location, and strong sense of community, Kennydale is a prized neighborhood one will move into and may never want to leave.
