Located at the base of Queen Anne hill and just northwest of the metropolis, you begin to enter arguably the best neighborhood in Seattle. Sophisticated and friendly, lower Queen Anne, or Uptown as it is commonly called, is the perfect place to live if you are looking to enjoy the perks of city life, yet also the pleasantries of family life, front yards and a neighborhood farmer’s market. If you drive approximately 1.5 miles north on 1st Ave from central downtown you’ll run into lower Queen Anne-home to the Seattle Center, Key Arena, and the Space Needle, and Seattle’s opera house, McCaw Hall. Rattling with festivities throughout the year, you’ll never run out of things to do.
For groceries and other shopping needs, there’s a neighborhood Safeway and Metropolitan Market. A plethora of coffee shops, book stores and specialty shops line the busy streets offering respite inside or window shopping opportunities. If you’re interested in formal dining with friends or a quick bite before a concert or event, there are many restaurants to choose from. From fondue at The Melting Pot, to the dim lights and wine at The Sitting Room, to Roti Cuisine of India, to cheeseburgers at Dick’s, there’s something for everyone and for every mood.
Even though many events, including Seattle’s annual Labor Day festival, Bumbershoot, are happening so close-at-hand, the outskirts of all the activity offer housing that is charming and quiet. While there are numerous condos and apartments to choose from within the business center, just to the northwest houses boast unique Victorian architecture. There is a splash of modernity and color to the decor that freshens the spirits of visitors and locals alike seeking refuge from work and traffic. Well-groomed yards come alive in the summer, and offer a pleasing and relaxing aesthetic. Houses located on the west side of Olympic Way enjoy beautiful views of sailboat races, ferry boats and shipping vessels gliding across Puget Sound, with green-covered islands and the Olympic Mountains in the distance. Houses facing east can watch sea-planes take off and land on Lake Union.
Spacious Kinnear Park offers great trails for dog-walking and a giant swing-set! Staircases and pathways lead up to the popular parks at the top of the hill, featuring Kerry Park (on glamorous Highland Drive), which offers an unbeatable view of Seattle and the Sound. Fremont is north across the Aurora Bridge, and Magnolia lies to the west.
